Microwave Cart Makeover
As far back as I can remember, my parents had this microwave cart. I remember it at the very first house I lived in and it always seemed so big! However, it's really not that large, but it's got a lot of storage. Well as you can tell, I love extra storage, and the fact that our house didn't come with a microwave made having a microwave cart a must because I definitely did not want to lose any counter space. Here's where the 24+ year old microwave cart came into play.
It was a finished light oak (?) colored wood with plastic wheels. (Yes, you read that right...) While I knew that I didn't necessarily want the microwave cart in its original state, I thought, "Why not paint it to match the kitchen cabinets?" Well that is exactly what we did (and by "we" I mean "my parents") The first attempt was to spray it with semi-gloss white kitchen and bath paint, but spraying it didn't give the piece the right finish. So my mom ended up hand painting each piece, which proved to be the best method for this project. We also did not reattach the plastic wheels and added new hardware (the original was wooden, enough said.)
After it was all done, it was perfect! It gave me extra storage, a place for our microwave, and another piece that matched our kitchen cabinets.
