Bird Lampshade Redo
Like I've said before, working for a retailer that sells cute home decor is definitely a plus! Well I purchased a lamp on clearance at work, and after my discount, I ended up only paying about $11.00 for a medium size lamp base and shade (it all came in a box together) which is really good! The only disadvantage was that it was pretty plain. The base was a light creamy white/gray color...and so was the lampshade. I knew that wasn't going to last long...
I purchased it to go in one of our guest bedrooms (the green and gray room) so I picked out a light gray tree branch with birds patterned fabric that had a creamy white background (perfect to go with the lamp base right??)
From here I just kind of went wherever the project took me because I'd never recovered a lampshade. So I ironed and laid out the entire piece fabric Then, I took the lampshade and rolled it over the fabric to see what kind of shape I would need to cut. Since it wasn't a straight drum shade, it had a arc to it. I penciled out the pattern and left enough space to wrap around the top and bottom edge of the shade. Once it was cut out, I hot glued (yes, I am a crafter who LOVES her hot glue gun) one end of the fabric to the seam on the shade. After it was glued around the shade, I glued down the excess around the top and bottom edge.
Overall, it was pretty simple, and the second lampshade I did went much quicker than the first one. (Yes, I did another one...who wants to settle with a boring lampshade??) Here's how it turned out!!
