A couple years ago, I was garage-saling for furniture and decor for my apartment a college. It was my first year living by myself so I was going to have quite a bit of space to decorate. I didn't have much of a budget so a good deal to me was a great deal! At one of the garage sales, I found a retro set of end tables, a coffee table, and a bookcase that I loved, and lucky for me, they were a great deal! They needed some love so we painted the legs of everything black and took the glass panels off the bookcase to give them a facelift.
Ever since then, I've been able to find a place to put them in our apartment and now our house. But when we moved into the house, I decided to split up the set. We kept the end tables in the family room and left the legs painted black (which will soon be painted a Rust color, but more one that later). The bookcase got moved into my office/craft/sewing room and the legs were painted a Teal Blue color since that was the accent color in that room.
While I liked the look of the painted bookcase legs, I wanted to add something more. This led me to the idea to paint the back of the bookcase, but I didn't like the commitment factor of the back always being painted. So after I decided that painting the actual bookcase was not my favorite idea, I decided that I was going to use a combination of cardboard, spray adhesive, and fabric to recover some pieces of cardboard that fit perfectly into the back of the bookcase.
So after a little measuring and remeasuring, I cut my cardboard pieces to size. Then, I applied spray adhesive to the cardboard pieces and stretched the fabric over each piece. And here is how it all turned out...
Doesn't it look great?!? And the even better fact is that I can change it as I change my decor because I didn't make it permanent! Thank goodness for options...
